Nocpix RICO 3 PRO H50R Thermal Scope

Southern Precision Outdoors field-tested the RICO 3 PRO H50R while hog hunting, using it on both an AR-platform rifle and a bolt-action rifle. The scope performed extremely well on both setups, remained properly balanced and held zero throughout our testing.

Industry-First Autofocus Technology

The RICO 3 PRO introduces industry-first Autofocus technology for thermal weapon optics. With the press of a button, the scope uses distance information from its integrated laser rangefinder to automatically adjust the objective focus and produce a sharp thermal image.

Autofocus worked extremely fast during our field testing. When hogs appeared or changed distance, the system quickly brought the target into focus without requiring us to reach forward and manually adjust the objective lens.

This is more than a feature that looks good on a specification sheet. It provided a noticeable advantage in real hunting conditions by allowing us to remain in position behind the rifle while ranging and focusing on the target.

Manual focus adjustment remains available whenever the shooter prefers complete control.

640×512 Thermal Sensor with ≤15 mK Sensitivity

At the center of the RICO 3 PRO H50R is a high-performance 640×512, 12 μm Nocpix thermal sensor with a sensitivity rating of ≤15 mK.

This sensitive detector reveals subtle temperature differences and maintains strong target definition in fog, humidity, rain and other low-contrast conditions. Nocpix Reality+ 2.0 image processing further improves image detail, contrast and overall clarity.

Image quality was excellent during our field testing. The scope produced a clean, detailed thermal image, while its 60 Hz refresh rate kept movement smooth and responsive when tracking hogs in the field.

3X Base Magnification and 50mm F/1.0 Lens

The 50mm F/1.0 germanium objective lens and 3X native magnification make the RICO 3 PRO H50R an excellent option for medium- to long-range hog and predator hunting.

Its 8.8° × 7.0° field of view provides enough visibility to locate and track animals while maintaining the magnification needed for detailed target identification. The scope has a stated thermal detection range of up to 2,840 yards.

Ocular Zoom 2.0

Ocular Zoom 2.0 combines optical enlargement of the ultra-high-resolution display with smooth digital magnification beyond 2X power. This hybrid system helps preserve a more usable thermal image as magnification increases.

The system takes a little time to get accustomed to, especially for hunters who have only used traditional digital zoom. Once we became familiar with it, we found that Ocular Zoom 2.0 held the image extremely well at longer distances.

A rotating zoom lever controls ocular and digital magnification together, taking the RICO 3 PRO from its 3X base magnification up to 24X total magnification.

2560×2560 Round AMOLED Display

The RICO 3 PRO features a large-format 1.03-inch circular AMOLED display with an impressive 2560×2560 resolution.

Its round viewing area provides an immersive experience similar to looking through a traditional daytime riflescope. The ultra-high resolution and strong contrast help preserve fine details while displaying ranging, ballistic and recording information.

Available thermal palettes include White Hot, Black Hot, Red Hot, Rainbow, Violet, Crimson and Viridian.

Upgraded 1,600-Yard Laser Rangefinder

The integrated laser rangefinder provides distance measurements out to 1,600 yards. It is designed to deliver faster readings, improved small-target detection and more reliable long-range performance.

During our testing, the rangefinder was noticeably faster than anything Nocpix has released in the past. We also experienced improved ranging distance in the field.

That additional speed matters when hunting moving animals because it reduces the delay between ranging, focusing and preparing to take the shot.

The RICO 3 PRO supports both single and continuous ranging modes. In single-ranging mode, the rangefinder can work with the onboard ballistic calculator to display calculated aiming information directly through the scope.

Integrated Ballistic Calculator

The onboard multi-variable ballistic calculator allows shooters to enter rifle and ammunition information to produce a more complete shooting solution.

The RICO 3 PRO supports multiple zero profiles and zeroing distances, making it easier to configure the optic for different rifles or ammunition. The familiar interface should be easy to navigate for anyone who has previously used a RICO 2.

Seven standard reticle designs are included, along with an additional customizable DIY reticle available through the Nocpix app. Reticle color and brightness can also be adjusted to match the selected thermal palette and hunting conditions.

Customizable Bluetooth Remote

The included Bluetooth remote is one of the biggest practical upgrades to the RICO platform. It can control ranging, Autofocus, zoom and fine-focus adjustments while providing additional programmable shortcuts for frequently used functions.

When positioned near the shooter’s support hand during tripod hunting, the remote allows these adjustments to be made without reaching forward to operate the scope.

The hunter can remain in a stable shooting position while ranging the target, activating Autofocus or changing magnification. This feature proved extremely useful during our field testing.

Familiar RICO 2-Style Controls

Although the RICO 3 PRO introduces several major improvements, its functions and menu layout remain very similar to the RICO 2 series.

Hunters who already own or have experience with a RICO 2 should find the controls familiar and easy to navigate. This reduces the learning curve while still providing access to the new Autofocus system, upgraded rangefinder, Ocular Zoom 2.0 and customizable remote.

Excellent Eye Relief and Balance

The RICO 3 PRO provides 60mm of eye relief, and its eye position stood out as one of the best we have experienced in this class of thermal scope.

The scope was also well balanced during testing. We ran it on both an AR-platform rifle and a bolt-action rifle, and it performed well on both setups without feeling excessively front- or rear-heavy.

The optic has also held zero well throughout our testing.

Recoil-Activated Video and 64 GB Storage

The RICO 3 PRO includes onboard video recording and Recoil-Activated Video, allowing the scope to automatically capture footage when a shot is fired.

Built-in 64 GB storage provides plenty of space for recorded hunts. Integrated Wi-Fi and Nocpix app compatibility allow users to access and transfer images and videos to a compatible mobile device.

Picture-in-Picture mode provides a magnified aiming window while retaining the wider field of view in the main display.

Long-Lasting NBP-8 Battery System

The purpose-built NBP-8 battery system is designed for uninterrupted overnight hunting. Each rechargeable battery provides up to 10 hours of runtime and approximately seven hours of operation in extreme temperatures down to -4°F.

Battery life was very good throughout our field testing. A spare battery is included, allowing hunters to quickly exchange batteries and continue hunting with minimal downtime.

The RICO 3 PRO also supports magnetic charging, direct USB-C charging, USB-C external power and instant startup from standby.

Rugged Magnesium-Alloy Construction

The RICO 3 PRO H50R is protected by a durable magnesium-alloy housing with an IP67 ingress-protection rating.

It is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -4°F to 122°F and withstand recoil up to 1,000 g/s², including use on .300 Win. Mag. and 7mm Mag. platforms.

An included dual-throw quick-detach mounting system attaches directly to a Picatinny MIL-STD-1913 rail.
